Mental Health and Aging
By Jim McCabe, DSW, MSW, MPH (3 CEU’s)
Jim McCabe is the president of Eldercare Resources, a geriatric care management firm. He has been in practice from more than 25 years. He consults with seniors and their families. In addition, Jim has worked with companies providing education and technical assistance to employees through their employee assistance programs.
The factors that affect the mental status of the elderly are often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. This seminar will explore the medical, psychological, and environmental factors (both positive & negative) that influence the aging process as it relates to mental functioning. Participants will also have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with diagnostic tools that are useful when working with geriatric clients and mental health issues.
Outline of major topics to be covered:
I. Medial issues affecting the mental health of the elderly
II. Psychological and environmental factors that influence mental health and aging
III. Diagnostic tools to assist you in your work with the elderly
