"Doing the Right Thing: Ethical Applications in Human Services" (3 CEUs ethics) presented by Neil Tift, MA

This three-hour workshop will focus on the application of problem-solving and decision-making skills to ethical issues that confront social works professionals in human service organizations.  Issues regarding confidentiality, abuse and neglect, intervention and treatment, relevant laws and regulations such as ICWA and duty to protect will be addressed. We will also examine strategies for establishing and maintaining personal boundaries, including dual and multiple relationships, gifts, bartering, conflicts of interest, social media, appropriate touch, boundary crossings and staff impairment.


Outline of major topics to be covered:

I.  Identify how changing moral thought reflects and impacts prevailing ethical standards in the nature, scope and focus of professional social work practice and maintaining healthy boundaries.
II.  Assess participant’s personal awareness of ethical thinking and practice in their professional work.
III.  Understand participants preferred personal approaches to ethical decision-making and integrate their professional code of ethics into workplace applications.

Neil Tift, MA is the Training Coordinator for the Native American Fatherhood and Families Association (NAFFA) in Mesa. From 2010 to 2016, he was the Father Involvement Program Director for the Child Crisis Arizona in Mesa. For over 30 years, Neil was adjunct instructor at seven universities in Minnesota and Arizona teaching ethics, child psychology, gender studies and human service administration. Neil is a family mediator, parent educator, game developer, men’s therapist, author, dadvocate and overweight jogger.
