"Creative Skills for Counseling Adolescent and Adult Sexual Abuse Survivors: Developing Meaningful Connections While Maintaining Ethical Boundaries" (3 CEUs ethics)

Strong, trust based clinical connections with sexual abuse survivors is critical to positive therapeutic outcomes. Developing trusting clinical relationships can be challenging as clinicians strive to intertwine theory, practice and ethics. This workshop will provide a brief theoretical overview of sexual abuse dynamics, group exercises focused on ethical challenges in developing and maintaining therapeutic boundaries and intervention strategies for bringing theory ‘to life’ when working with sexual abuse survivors. This workshop will be especially helpful to counselors who are new to the field of therapy as well as those who are ready to expand their ‘hands-on’ intervention skills.

Major Topics:

I. Theoretical Overview of Sexual Abuse Dynamics
II. Ethical Considerations in Developing and Maintaining Therapeutic Boundaries
III. Experiential Counseling Intervention Skills
