Topic: Trauma Informed Practice in Systems of Care (1 CEU)

Goals and Objectives

Goal 1. Participants will have a working knowledge of systems of care in behavioral health.

Objective 1. Able to identify the components of systems of care.

Objective 2. Understand systems of care values.

Objective 3. Understand systems of care principles.


Goal 2. Participants will have a working knowledge of trauma’s impact on people in the behavioral health field.

Objective 1. Able to define the types of trauma, its characteristics and prevalence.

Objective 2. Understands the importance of screening for trauma.

Objective 3. Can identify the treatment considerations of trauma-informed practice.

Objective 4. Knows the elements of a trauma-informed care environment.

Objective 5. Understands the importance of self-care and preventing secondary trauma

Joan M. Abbey, LMSW, retired from Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) College of Health and Human Services where she served as Research Office Director.  She taught research/evaluation and social policy classes at EMU and the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work for over three decades.  Systems of Care (SOC) were a primary focus of her research along with evidence-based and promising practices in behavioral health.
