Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Connecting Self-Care and Ethical Practice (3 Ethics CEUs)

Date: 08/24/2018

Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Have you ever had a session with a client and afterwards upon reflection, thought, "I did not handle that very well"? Or in the middle of a session could feel your internal temperature rising? It has happened to all of us. Countertransference. It is one of the unspoken truths that helping professionals bring into sessions and can get in the way of effective practice. This workshop will provide an opportunity to look at countertransference through the lens of the NASW Code of Ethics and to provide some new ideas for social worker self-care using the tools of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Objectives of this workshop are as followed:

I. Identify the NASW Values and codes which emphasize ethical practice related to self-care and countertransference.

II. Provide an overview of the theory and interventions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

III. Provide a framework for the application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to selfcare for the social worker.

Sue Dolence, LCSW has worked in the field of social services and behavioral health for over 18 years. She is in private practice in Tucson and specializes in using different types of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people struggling with mood disorders, the effects of trauma, interpersonal problems and sleep disorders.
