This workshop will explore the many ways culture is defined, described, and utilized when providing treatment to children and families. This interactive and dynamic workshop will promote awareness of your own cultural competency and strategies you can implement into your daily practice.    

Topics that will be covered:

I. Using cultural competence to strengthen families in treatment

II. Defining the most relevant aspects of cultural diversity in clinical assessments

III. Demonstrating cultural competence in initial clinical interviews 

Presented by: Katie Mommaerts, LCSW

Katie Mommaerts is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Northern Arizona University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Masters in Social Work in 2006. Katie has over 11 plus years of social work experience from a variety of settings, including integrative care, hospice, school social work, and community mental/behavioral health. Katie moved from Wisconsin in 2009, is a certified personal trainer, and enjoys the mountain life the Flagstaff community has to offer.
