  • Welcome and Introductions
  • Legislative 101 Refresher
  • Updates from the Election (committee assignments, etc)
  • 2019 NASW Arizona Legislative Priorities
  • How social workers can take action
  • Practicing self-care while engaging in policy work

2019 NASWAZ Policy Priorities

Monitor legislation regarding:

* State and federal funding for Health and Human Service Programs

* Removal of the automatic freeze on KidsCare

* Child Welfare System Reform including implementation of the Family First Prevention Services Act and integration of physical and behavioral health care at CMDP

* Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Treatment, including syringe access programs

* Addressing caseloads for school social workers including use of the term “social worker” for those without social work degrees

* Gun violence and school safety

* Support for social justice issues

* Regulation and de-regulation of the social work professional

 

Continue twice monthly public policy calls for the NASW membership with weekly policy committee member calls during session.

Create weekly legislative updates for the public policy committee members.

Provide testimony as needed as determined by the public policy committee.

Build relationships with new legislators.
