Social Work Day at the Legislature Bills and Lobbying Topics

This year’s Social Work Day at the Legislature includes priorities around behavioral health, child welfare, and budget items. The bills surrounding these items are fluid and we will have our final bill list the day of the event. By limiting our discussion to just a few bills or topics, we will be able to speak in a unified voice!

Frequently Asked Questions about Social Work Day at the Legislature

1.) Will I be talking to lawmakers face to face?

This event will not schedule in-person meetings with lawmakers, however, we will be addressed by Senators and Representatives during the program. Our activities will focus on making sure that you know the issues that affect social workers and their clients. We will engage in advocacy activities and you will be provided the information to familiarize yourself with issues during the event.

2.) What should I wear?

Please dress in professional attire – no jeans, shorts, or flip-flops. Suits are not mandatory, but it is generally better to be overdressed than under dressed.

3.) What about food?

Food is not allowed in our meeting room. We recommend that you eat a big breakfast. This year, lunch will be on your own. If you have special dietary restrictions, please pack a lunch.

4.) Can I write to my legislators or their staffers about other issues of concern, such as issues not related to social workers?

Typically, it is best to limit letters to one or two topics at a time. We will focus on the NASW Arizona Chapter priorities during this event. By focusing the entire group on the same bills or topics, we will have a greater impact.

We ask that you try to remember what legislative (not Congressional) district you live in. We captured that information upon registration, and will write it down for you once your check-in.
